This vacant apartment building was originally built in the 1930's and is on the historic register. The building will be fully redesigned to return to a 32 unit apartment facility. A modern design for the site and interiors will contrast against the historic facade outside and restored trim and doors in new corridors.

Intelligent Line A+D was retained to complete a full service historical renovation and new master plan for three buildings originally built in 1920 and presently on the historical register. The project is partially funded by state and federal historic tax credits as well as programs for low income seniors. It will provide over 60,000 square feet of completely new interiors and and retrofitted exteriors, as well as a master plan for the entire block. We are excited and have completed the existing survey and initial sketches. Images soon!

While my opening joke was only received well by half the audience, it was a big success. I had a wonderful morning speaking to the Parkville group of 60 or so small business owners about the importance of design in their spaces and how brand identity can be strong in their buildings and spaces. As always, I showed many pretty pictures, and offered a few tips on hiring and selecting designers and architects.

How to select.

Quality based selection is the best option for selecting a designer.

Don't get confused and hire one company that has built 5 similar projects in the last 5 years. Look as a blend of projects and access ideas and willingness to help the client!

New restaurant project, Kansas City!

Intelligent Line was selected to provide architecture and interior design for this new restaurant space and banquet facility in KC! The space will use an artisan wrought iron canopy with gas lamps to wrap around the brick facade. The interior will have curving planes of stone and a chefs table on an elevated podium in an old safe. We can't wait for our free taste!

Major renovation and outdoor kitchen space, Overland Park

We are in early design for a great client in Overland Park. The goal of our involvement is to create warm, inviting, and interesting facade, entry, deck, landscape plan, and outdoor kitchen terrace. New copper fixtures and panels will compliment local stone columns at the entry. The materials will wrap the home to create a great new look! Completion is late 2010 and we are looking forward it!

This new facade and interior for a vacant building north of Kansas City utilizes solar/pv panels as sun shades and energy generators, a new billboard rooftop, and thermal glass for 100% natural light to the interior. The repurposed wood panels, reused existing structure, and great new interior environment make this a great project to be a part of!

This new sketch for a 12,000 square foot home is more traditional than much of my work, it is inspired by French country architecture and will be set into the landscape on its five acre site to complete the country feel. Rustic stone, brick, and silver patina will complete the façade.

Project Win: Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living Center

This design sketch is the early development of a new type of elderly care and medical facility. The development is modeled after a small town center. Shops for hair, gifts, clothes, a gym, and spa are pushed to the outside of the building to create a mixed use community intertwined with the care facility. The interior becomes a group of small villages where one can meander from shop to community and back home in just a short stroll. This active and connected approach to the plan carries through in the color and space of the project. Project completion is slated for 2011.

This 14000 square foot project will include a 25 person home theater, 2000 square foot master suite with single press lighting, shades, and espresso service, and four season space made of folding glass walls. A fusion of french architecture and modern functions, the home is scheduled for completion in 2011 and is designed to entertain guests and family.

This major renovation for an existing, investment grade, downtown property calls for passive solar light shades to reflect light deeper into the north and east sides of the building, while reflecting heat on the south and west. A new roof deck captures rainwater while giving the building users a usable outdoor green space in the middle of downtown; the green concept continues to a new base and landscape that greets visitors.

This new image of a proposed hotel tower and convention center is designed to connect to both the nearby river and downtown. The glass and steel tower will offer views of the city, and the site design (progressing) will offer a new look at the traditional boardwalk.

Master Plan: New Development will give equity to small business

This master plan creates a new mixed use development in Omaha, NE. A professional office village, medical building, and retail will occupy this large site. The development is connected by ample parking; a walking trail and site landscaping connect the offices and dining/retail. Each owner has the option to complete the LEED certification, and the developer will invest in the LEED site credits.

This new entry, office, and dining area at the University of Wyoming will meet the requirements for LEED certification and does a great job of tying in with the existing campus. The new construction utilizes 120' tall precast super columns and a inverted roofline with steel cladding. Completion is slated for 2011.

This is a great steakhouse modeled after the old steakhouses of the twenties and thirties, but with a modern twist. The dark tones still exist but are accomplished with scraped walnut flooring, backlit bronze mirror, and LED wine racks.

Project Open : Hard Rock Cafe

This is a fun space, and was a great challenge to work on! The food, atmosphere great, and the opening went perfectly! The space used ash millwork and white leather to create some architectural interest, while including the Hard Rock necessities: Neon guitar strings, plenty of rock history, and t-shirts.
